The North Island Primary and Intermediate School Snow Sports Championships (NIPS) are held annually at Whakapapa in the last week of August and the first week of September. Please note that name of the event has changed to recognise Snowboarding individually in the event for 2016.
Teams of 5 ski competitors or 5 snowboard competitors from schools all over the North Island gather at Mount Ruapehu for this event.
It is now one of the largest single sport primary schools sporting events in New Zealand and the largest skiing event held on Mt Ruapehu with over 300 competitors.
The event spans three weeks with teams from all Schools with Years 1 – 8 competitors.

Dates for 2017 are:
Week 1 will be for Year 7 & 8 ski competitors only commencing August 21st
Week 2 will be for Year 1 – 6 ski competitors only commencing August 28th
Week 3 will be for all snowboarders commencing September 4th
To encourage participation Team entries are no longer limited to two. Schools may enter as many teams as they wish, providing they meet the entry criteria and published time frame.
